The Haynes Institute exists to recover and teach sources at the meeting place of theology, American history, and classical education.

The name honors Lemuel Haynes, an early Black American minister, Revolutionary War veteran, and writer whose life joined Christian conviction, learned preaching, and public courage.

The institute is especially concerned with helping and healing the Black American community through truth-telling, historical memory, moral formation, and careful reading.

The work begins with recovering sources worth reading slowly.

Theology

Sermons, catechisms, spiritual writings, and careful introductions to the Black church and Christian thought.

American History

Accounts of men and women whose work shaped churches, schools, families, public life, and the American conscience.

Classical Education

Reading paths, teaching notes, and source collections that train attention, virtue, memory, and judgment.
